Additional info:  Family Haven is not a typical food pantry. They are a homeless shelter in Grand Rapids, MI that is run under the umbrella of ICCF (Inner City Christian Federation). Family Haven, run by Deb A., takes in WHOLE families at a time that are homeless due to job loss, domestic abuse, etc. They assist the parent(s) in getting housing, financial assistance, job leads, etc. With only five apartments, they have a waiting list but even then they try to help those that have to be turned away with other contacts, information and often with specific needs, if they can. But, Family Haven is like any other shelter in this economy and running on a shoe string. They are constantly in need of all different kinds of food, household and hygiene products.

This location does not accept postal mail, so all mail is sent to 2815 Giles rd.The thrift store sells the items that are donated by the immediate Community, and all proceeds are used to purchase the food from Feeding America, to give to those in need in the immediate community. We give food out every Friday, and clients are allowed to come on a weekly basis.

If more food or services are needed, we help the client determine if their crisis is short term or long term and fashion our services to meet their needs. In addition to a food pantry, they also have a very nice thrift store.

We also collect hygiene items from donations, and try to give some special things to the mothers. They are so appreciative of all they receive.

Additional info:  We are an emergency food pantry.  We serve low income people in Newaygo County. Depending on the number of people in the home, each family gets some protein, vegetable, fruit, and grain nonperishable items once a month.  The last couple of months the number of families we serve has increased. This increase has meant we need to stock the shelves more often. The contact person is Helen Reid. She is the person who purchase the food to be distributed. The food pantry is manned by volunteers.
