Items most needed: They are able to accept perishable foods as they do have freezers/refrigerators. The food bank is in desperate need of eggs, milk, any type of meat, canned fruit, baby needs including formula, diabetic foods, and toiletries including toothbrushes, and gas cards.

Additional info: They attempt to provide for need such as clothing and christmas toys as well. They are looking for winter clothes, coats, and blankets at this time as well as food. Food bank serves anyone who comes for help. They do not have federal restrictions, so are able to provide more than just one bag of food per month. They also provide counseling on domestic abuse, money management, mental health, self defense, etc. This food bank attempts to do more than provide emergency food by referring people for other help and providing counseling to help them more out of the current situation.

Items most needed: All types of food, but they mostly stock shelf staple canned or boxed foods. They do have a freezer with limited capacity. They would accept bread, rolls, etc. due to the high volume of people in need right now.

Additional info: The Family Services Program at New Lenox Township Offices offers numerous programs that are designed to help and provide assistance to our residents that are in need. General Assistance may be provided to qualified New Lenox Township recipients in accordance with State of Illinois guidelines. Emergency assistance is also provided for New Lenox Township residents when a life threatening situation occurs. Applications for General and Emergency Assistance are required by law and may be obtained at the Township Office. The Food Pantry is available at the Township Offices for New Lenox residents who are in need of food supplies. Proof of residency is required. The hours of operation for the food pantry are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Residents are limited to one bag of groceries per week. No appointment is necessary. Currently, the food pantry is experiencing record level demand each week. The food pantry does not operate on tax dollars but solely on donations from our community. One interesting idea that the Township is implementing is our "Adopt A Food Item" program where you, your family, or your organization can adopt a particular food/foods and make a commitment to donating that specific food to our pantry. If you are interested in donating, or would like to find out more information abourt our "Food Adoption Program" and what foods are available for adoption, please call us. Medical Supplies Exchange Program offers an exchange program for residents of New Lenox Township who are in need (availability allowing) of wheel chairs, crutches, walkers, canes, etc. All exchange items are free of cost and there is no time limit as to use. Also, if you have items to donate, please bring them to the Township Office.

Additional info: We feed up to 150 people at the South Toledo Community Outreach at least twice a month. One night per month, we feed them, have a short church service, and distribute 75 family boxes of food, toilet paper, and personal items. Since some of our participants live on the streets or in a shelter, we also need trial/travel size toiletries they can keep in their pocket. Whatever we give them cannot required refrigeration or a freezer.

Additional info:  Reach Out Lakota is a non-profit, ecumenical, community-sponsored organization that gives eligible families in West Chester and Liberty Township food and clothing, as well as paper, cleaning, baby, personal care and household items. No one can predict a layoff, a fire, or unfortunate event. The economic downturn and cost of fuel has caused a financial crisis on some families who have never before had to ask for aid. We help our neighbors who have fallen on hard times. We also provide referrals to other agencies when additional assistance is required. Over 1,000 pieces of clothing and 18,000 pounds of food are given away monthly.
