Have you ever seen an abbreviation and wondered what it meant? You know... that RP in the ES list or that IMO in someone's message in the Community section?

This is the thread you can access to answer those questions!

Coupon Sources

All You = Magazine full of manufacturer's coupons. Available exclusively at Walmart or by subscription.

GM - General Mills - major manufacturer of items such as Cheerios, Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, & Green Giant. SmartSource sends out newspaper inserts from time to time with coupons for their products only.

P&G = Proctor and Gamble. Major product manufacturer that has monthly coupon insert in most newspapers.

RP = Red Plum - Coupon insert (found in the newspaper) put out by the Red Plum (Valassis) coupon company, and printable coupons at www.RedPlum.com.

SS = Smart Source - Coupon company. Provides newspaper coupon inserts, small in-store coupon machines, and printable coupons at www.smartsource.com.

Note: Sometimes you see something like (RP Sears 1/2) listed as a coupon source. Whenever there is more than one of the same type of insert in the newspaper in the same week, we include the name of what's on the cover of the insert to distinguish between the two.


Store Incentives/Promotions

Catalina = A coupon that prints out of the Catalina machine at the checkout lane. Sometimes they are coupons to use later on a specific product. Most often they are good for "money off" your next shopping order. (Use like cash.)

CC = Custom Coupon. This is an advertised coupon offered at Meijer that prints from the Catalina machine. (Basically, it's a special Catalina deal Meijer sponsors or advertises).

ECB = Extra Care Bucks ... This is what CVS calls their Catalinas. They print at the bottom of your receipt.

MM = Meijer MealBox - Store coupons that are printed out from the Meijer Mealbox website. Also used to mean Money Maker.

RR = Register Rewards ... this is the name Walgreens uses for Catalina coupons good on your next shopping trip.

+Up Rewards = This is what Rite Aid calls their Catalinas. They print at the bottom of your receipt.


Terms you will see in Enlightened Shopping

B1G1 or B1G1F or BOGO = Buy 1 get 1 free. This might be in the form of a coupon or a store sales offer.

GC = Gift Card

MIR = Mail In Rebate

NLP = No Longer Printable. Used to refer to Target coupons that haven't expired yet but are no longer printable.

NLV = No Longer Viewable. Used to refer to Rite Aid Video Values coupons that haven't expired yet but are no longer available to be earned.

OYNO = On (or Off) your Next Order (or shopping trip) often used to refer to Catalina offers.

WSL = While Supplies Last

WYB = "When you buy". Indicated on offers that require multi-unit purchase. Example: Get $1 off when you buy 2.


More Coupon/Savings Lingo

Blinkies = Coupons from the Smartsource coupon dispensers found in stores.

C/O = Cash off. Coupons are also sometimes called cash offs as they allow you money off a product. (Could be listed as CO)

CRT = Cash Register Tape. Often used when discussing rebates.

DCRT = Dated Cash Register Tape.

FAR = Free after Rebate

HT = Hang Tag - A coupon or offer found "hanging" on a product when purchased. (Often the coupon can be used right away at the register when making the purchase.)

MM = Money Maker. Also used to refer to Meijer MealBox Coupons

NED = No expiration Date

OAS = On Any size... Shows that a coupon or offer is good for any size the product comes in.

OOP = Out of pocket. Usually refers to actual money handed over.

Peelie = A coupon or offer found attached to a product when purchased. (Often the coupon can be used right away at the register when making the purchase.)

POP = Proof of Purchase ..the item(s) that the manufacturer is requiring to prove you actually purchased the product required for a rebate - usually the UPC bar code.

Printable = A coupon printed from the Internet

Rebate = An offer by a store or a manufacturer for money back or a promotional gift. Rebates have a wide range of requirements for proof of purchase and may be submitted via the Internet or by mail, depending on the rebate Terms and Conditions.

SMP = Specially marked packages... item might have a peel off coupon or offer on the package.

Store Coupon = A coupon authorized and issued by a specific store. They are typically only redeemable at the issuing store chain. (Example: Walgreens coupons - redeemable only at Walgreens stores.) Coupons may be obtained via ads, special coupon/incentive brochures, the Internet and more.

UPC = Universal product Code... the bar code found on almost every item that is scanned at the cash register. May also be called a proof of purchase.

WT = Winetag... coupon or rebate promotion from adult beverage companies. May or may not require purchase of alcohol to redeem. Most common type is a coupon like "save $5 wyb case of beer and Lays Potato Chips" or "Save $1 on any ham".


Abbreviations often used in the Angel Community Forum discussions...

ASAV = Any Size Any Variety

B&M = Brick and Mortar to indicate the deal is available at the actual store and not found online at the company's website.

BTFE = Box Tops for Education. This is a program that allows mainly schools to get 10 cents for each Box Top coupon that is clipped off of participating products, and turned in by the school.

BTW = By the Way.

CLFE = Campbells Labels for Education. Similar to BTFE. Schools collect product labels with UPC's to redeem for merchandise for the school.

DD = Dear Daughter or Dumpster Diving, depending on the context.

DH = Dear Husband

DIL = Daughter-in-law

DS = Dear Son

ES = Enlightened Shopping

FIL= Father-in-law

HTH = Hope that Helps

IDSO = In desperate search of ...lets others know you really want something.

IMHO = In my humble opinion

IMO = In my opinion

ISO = In Search of ... lets others know you are looking for something.

LOL = Laughing out Loud or sometimes Lots of Luck.

MIL = Mother-in-law

P/H or S/H = Postage & Handling or Shipping & Handling... indicates a fee that is to be paid. (Sometime listed as PH or SH)

PM = Private Message. This is the way we communicate with other angels as a way to give mailing addresses, etc. for trading coupons. (For security reasons, we recommend you never post personal information in the main part of the Community Section.)

RAOK = Random Act of Kindness

SASE = Self Addressed Stamped Envelope

SIL = Son-in-Law or Sister-in-Law

SO = Significant other

YMVM = Your mileage might vary...often used to say your store deal might vary from the posters.
